Winners Lane — Climb the Court Ladder

Winners Lane is a dynamic court-ladder format. Teams are assigned to courts, and after each round the winning pair moves up toward the Winners Lane while the losing pair drops down. The champion is the team holding the top court when the tournament ends.

How Winners Lane Works

Scoring

Each match uses standard padel scoring (15-30-40) with a golden point at deuce — draws are not allowed. There is no target game count; you play until time expires and the team with more games wins. The tournament winner is determined by court position: the team holding the Winners Lane (top court) at the end of the tournament is crowned champion, regardless of total points scored.

Partner Rotation

After every round, the winning pair moves one court toward the Winners Lane and the losing pair moves away from it. At the top court, the winning team stays and faces the winners from the court below as challengers. At the bottom court, the losing team stays and faces the relegated pair from above. Everyone changes partner every round — the two teams on a court cross-pair so former teammates always get new partners.

Minimum Players

Winners Lane requires a minimum of 8 players (divisible by 4), which means at least 2 courts. The first round assigns players to courts randomly. You can choose whether the Winners Lane is the highest or lowest court number. The format works best with 8–16 players across 2–4 courts.

FAQ

What is the golden point rule?

At deuce (40-40), instead of requiring a two-game lead, a single golden point decides the match. This ensures every match has a clear winner, which is essential for the ladder system to work — teams need to know whether to move up or down.

How is the champion determined?

The champion is simply the team holding the Winners Lane (top court) when the tournament ends. This is different from point-based formats — a team could score fewer total points but still be champion if they hold the top court. This creates dramatic late-tournament battles for the top position.

Can I choose which court is the Winners Lane?

Yes. When creating a Winners Lane tournament, you can set the Winners Lane to be either the highest or lowest court number. This lets you match the physical layout of your padel facility. The app handles all the ladder logic automatically.
